Guillermo del Toro mixes vampire ninjas, zombie-like hordes, and family betrayal into a slick techno-thriller with creatively choreographed fight sequences. A stylistically improvement over the prior film as one would expect from GDT. Snipes and Kristopherson are still awesome, and a pre Daryl Dixon Norman Reedus adds a little sleeze. The “Blood Pack” team of vamps are pretty forgettable except for Ron Perlman being the scrappy, cocky jerk he has mastered playing. The design of the Reapers is clearly seen in del Toro’s later series The Strain. In the hands of the maestro, Blade II is a solid follow-up to the first film.
